Earn Badges for Recruitment Milestones

Recruitment is a significant contribution that often goes unacknowledged. This story connects the recruitment attribution system to the badge and recognition tier system so that peer mentors automatically earn badges for hitting recruitment milestones. Badge criteria should include: first referral sent (awareness), first successful sign-up, reaching 5 and 10 successful recruits. When a badge is earned, an animated celebration overlay should appear the next time the peer mentor opens the app, with an option to share the badge achievement. Badge icons should be visually distinct from activity-based badges.

Acceptance Criteria

  • Given a peer mentor's referral results in a completed membership, when the attribution is confirmed in the system, then the peer mentor's badge progress is automatically updated
  • Given a peer mentor earns a recruitment badge, when they next open the app, then a celebratory badge-earned overlay appears with the badge name, description, and share option
  • Given a peer mentor has earned recruitment badges, when they view their badge shelf, then recruitment badges are displayed alongside activity badges with a distinct visual identifier
  • Given a badge is earned, when the peer mentor chooses to share it, then the native share sheet opens with a pre-composed congratulatory message and badge image
  • Given badge criteria evaluation runs, when a peer mentor's recruitment count crosses a milestone threshold, then the badge is awarded within 5 minutes of the triggering event

Business Value

Gamification through badges is a proven mechanism for sustaining volunteer engagement. HLF and NHF specifically requested Spotify Wrapped-style recognition. Connecting badges to recruitment milestones creates a direct feedback loop that rewards the behavior the organization needs most — growing membership. This also provides social proof when peer mentors share their achievements.
